AP exam dates 2027: the full May schedule

The College Board has published the 2027 AP Exam schedule. The 2027 AP Exams will be given in schools over two weeks in May: May 3 to 7 and May 10 to 14, 2027. Late testing runs from May 17 to 21. This guide lists every exam by date, explains the new start times for some locations outside the mainland US, and covers the fees and deadlines families need to know this school year.

AP exam dates 2027: week 1 (May 3 to 7)

The College Board splits each day into Session 1 and Session 2, which replace the former morning and afternoon designations.

  • Monday, May 3. Session 1: Human Geography, Physics C: Mechanics. Session 2: Biology, Italian Language and Culture.
  • Tuesday, May 4. Session 1: Business with Personal Finance, United States Government and Politics. Session 2: European History, Microeconomics.
  • Wednesday, May 5. Session 1: Cybersecurity, English Literature and Composition. Session 2: Physics 1: Algebra-Based, Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism.
  • Thursday, May 6. Session 1: French Language and Culture, Physics 2: Algebra-Based, World History: Modern. Session 2: African American Studies, Chemistry.
  • Friday, May 7. Session 1: German Language and Culture, United States History. Session 2: Macroeconomics, Networking (2026-27 pilot schools only).

AP exam dates 2027: week 2 (May 10 to 14)

  • Monday, May 10. Session 1: Calculus AB, Calculus BC. Session 2: Music Theory, Seminar.
  • Tuesday, May 11. Session 1: Japanese Language and Culture, Precalculus. Session 2: Statistics.
  • Wednesday, May 12. Session 1: English Language and Composition. Session 2: Art History, Computer Science A.
  • Thursday, May 13. Session 1: Spanish Language and Culture. Session 2: Chinese Language and Culture, Environmental Science.
  • Friday, May 14. Session 1: Comparative Government and Politics, Computer Science Principles, Spanish Literature and Culture. Session 2: Latin, Psychology.

A few busy days stand out. Physics students can face several exams in one week: Physics C: Mechanics on May 3, Physics 1 and Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism on May 5 and Physics 2 on May 6. Calculus AB and BC share the morning of May 10, but the College Board doesn't allow a student to take both Calculus exams in the same year.

Late testing: May 17 to 21, 2027

Late testing exists for students who can't test in the first two weeks, or who have two exams scheduled at the same time. The College Board uses alternate versions of the exams for late testing, and AP coordinators order them. The late-testing dates for some common exams are:

  • Calculus AB and Calculus BC: Thursday, May 20, Session 2.
  • Statistics and English Language and Composition: Friday, May 21, Session 1.
  • Biology and Physics 1: Wednesday, May 19, Session 1.
  • Chemistry, Precalculus and Computer Science A: Thursday, May 20, Session 1.
  • United States History: Tuesday, May 18, Session 2.

New start times outside the mainland US

Starting with the 2027 exams, start times have changed in some locations, to stop secure exam content being shared across time zones. For most schools, including all schools in the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Washington, D.C., exams still start at 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. local time. Exams can still begin up to an hour after the listed start time.

Outside the US, start times are set by your location's UTC offset in May. Some examples from the College Board's table:

  • UTC+00:00: Session 1 at 7 a.m., Session 2 at 11 a.m.
  • UTC+01:00: 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.
  • UTC+02:00: 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • UTC+05:30: 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
  • UTC+08:00: 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • UTC+10:00: 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

2027 AP Exam fees and ordering deadlines

According to the College Board, the cost per AP Exam will remain the same in 2026-27:

  • $99 per exam in the US, US territories, Canada and DoWEA schools.
  • $129 per exam at schools outside the US. Fees at authorized test centers outside the US vary.
  • A $40 late order fee per exam, on top of the exam fee, for exams ordered between November 14 and March 12 for full-year or first-semester courses.
  • A $40 fee for each unused or canceled exam if a student decides not to take an exam after the November 13 ordering deadline.
  • A $37 College Board fee reduction per exam for students with significant financial need.

Schools may charge more than these amounts to cover proctoring and administration costs. Fees can't be paid on the College Board website: the school's AP coordinator handles them.

The practical point for this term: the ordering deadline is November 13. If your child is unsure about an exam, decide before then.

AP Digital Portfolio deadlines

Some courses are assessed partly through work submitted in the AP Digital Portfolio. The 2027 deadlines are all at 11:59 p.m. ET:

  • AP Computer Science Principles: April 30, 2027, for the Create performance task.
  • AP Seminar and AP Research: April 30, 2027, for performance tasks.
  • AP World Languages and Cultures: April 30, 2027, for the Personalized Project Reference (new for 2027).
  • AP Art and Design: May 7, 2027, for the three portfolio components.

How to use the dates to plan revision

  • Count back from each exam. If your child takes more than one AP exam, mark each one on a calendar and plan revision in reverse, giving each subject its own block.
  • Spot clashes and back-to-back days early. Talk to the AP coordinator now if two of your child's exams share a session, so late testing can be arranged.
  • Use official free-response questions. AP Central publishes past free-response questions and scoring guidelines for each course. Practise them under timed conditions.
  • Leave time for portfolio courses. In Computer Science Principles, Seminar and Research, the April 30 deadline arrives before the exams start.
