“Our daughter was struggling with Chemistry and had reached the point where she really didn't enjoy the subject anymore. Mahgol has completely changed that. She is extremely knowledgeable but explains concepts in a very approachable way and is particularly good at finding the gaps that are causing a student to struggle. Our daughter has become much more confident with the work and is now approaching tests with a completely different attitude. We have also seen her marks start to move in the right direction, which has been wonderful to see.”

What you need to know about AP

What the test is, and how the lessons follow it.

Advanced Placement is College Board's programme of college-level courses and exams. Each AP course has its own exam. Scores are from 1 to 5.

AP is not the IB Diploma, Cambridge, IEB, or CAPS. A school may offer AP alongside another curriculum. The exam we prepare for is the AP course you name.

Calculus AB is not Calculus BC. AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C: Mechanics, and AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism are separate courses. AP English Language and AP English Literature are separate courses.

Lessons are one-to-one for that course. We do not enter you for the AP exam.

What we offer

  • One named AP course per plan

  • College Board exam, scored from 1 to 5

  • AB and BC, and the Physics courses, kept separate

  • Not an IB, Cambridge, IEB, or CAPS subject

Preparing for an AP exam?

Each Advanced Placement course has its own exam. Scores are from 1 to 5. Tell us the course name. Calculus AB is not Calculus BC, and the AP Physics courses are not interchangeable.

How test preparation starts

Four steps to match a tutor for the test you are sitting.

  1. Tell us the test

Share which test you are sitting, the score you need, and the date if you have one.

  2. We match a tutor

We shortlist a tutor who prepares students for that test.

  3. Practice plan

The tutor plans practice around the tasks and timing of that test.

  4. Start lessons

One-to-one online lessons. We prepare you for the test. We do not book it for you.

Here's what sets us apart

  • Tutors for this test

We match a tutor for the test you are sitting. Lessons do not follow a school syllabus.

  • True 1-on-1 Learning

No group classes. Each lesson works on the score you need and the tasks in that test.

  • The test you named

Each AP course has its own exam. We stay on that subject's free-response and multiple-choice practice.

  • Progress You Can See

A practice plan and feedback on the tasks you are preparing. We do not guarantee a score.

  • Interactive Platform

Live whiteboard, shared resources, and real-time collaboration.

What we cover

What we cover for AP

The tasks we practise. This is not a school syllabus.

  • The course you name

We teach one AP course at a time. Tell us the exact name, for example Calculus AB, Physics 1, or English Literature.

  • The 1 to 5 score

AP exams are scored from 1 to 5. Colleges decide what score they accept. We do not set that requirement.

  • Courses that are easy to mix up

Calculus AB and BC are different. AP Physics 1, Physics 2, and the two Physics C exams are different. English Language and English Literature are different.

  • Not another curriculum

AP is not the IB Diploma, Cambridge IGCSE or A Level, IEB, or CAPS, even if a school offers more than one of these.

Common mistakes

And how working with a private online tutor can help your child avoid them

Preparing for Calculus AB with only BC materials, or the reverse.

We confirm the course name and stay on that exam.

Using IB or Cambridge past papers as if they were the AP exam.

The specifications differ. Lessons follow the AP course you are taking.

Treating every AP Physics course as the same paper.

Physics 1, Physics 2, and the two Physics C exams stay separate in the plan.

Mixing AP English Language with AP English Literature practice.

We confirm which English AP course you are sitting and stay on that one.

Assuming the school syllabus alone matches the AP exam.

Lessons track the College Board course and exam, not a different curriculum label.

Study strategy

How lessons work for AP

Name the test, then practise that format. We do not use another exam's syllabus.

  1. 1

    Before the first lesson

    Name the test

Tell us the exact test or course, the score you need, and the date if you have one. We do not book the test for you.

  2. 2

    Before you book

    Meet the tutor

The free Meet and Greet is a conversation. You decide whether the tutor knows the test you are sitting.

  3. 3

    Through the preparation

    Weekly practice

Lessons work through the tasks for that test, at your pace.

  4. 4

    As the sitting approaches

    Timed practice

Closer to the sitting, lessons use the timing and task types of that test. We do not invent a test date.

Tactics

  • Bring the AP course name and the score the college has asked for.

  • Practise free-response and multiple-choice for that AP subject only.

  • Do not mix this AP course with another exam's syllabus.

Recommended approach

Start while there is time to practise each part of the test. A short block of lessons can still help if the date is close, as long as we know which test you are sitting.

What your child will achieve

What you can expect from AP tutoring

Realistic outcomes when your child commits to the process

  • A plan for one named AP course

  • Practice aimed at the 1 to 5 score scale

  • No mix-up between similar AP course names

A tutor prepares you for the test. We do not book the test, and we do not guarantee a score.

Frequently asked questions about AP

Is AP the same as the IB?

No. AP exams are College Board courses scored from 1 to 5. The IB Diploma is a different programme, with subject grades from 1 to 7 plus the core.

Is AP Calculus AB the same as BC?

No. They are separate AP courses and separate exams. Tell us which one you are taking.

How are AP exams scored?

Each AP exam is scored from 1 to 5. Universities decide which score they accept for credit. We prepare you for the course. We do not enter you for the exam.
