“Shy really enjoyed the session and really likes your way of engaging and teaching. She says you made her feel at ease and is very happy that you've helped her prepare for a test. She says you explained everything really well. I'm really happy, thank you 😊”

“Kenan has been teaching our son Mathematics and English and we couldn't be happier with him. Kenan has a very relaxed way with children but still keeps him focused and makes sure the work gets done. We've noticed that our son is much more confident with both subjects and doesn't complain about lessons anymore, which, as a parent, says a lot! He has built a really good relationship with him and looks forward to their sessions each week.”

What you need to know about the ACT
What the test is, and how the lessons follow it.
The ACT is an admissions test. It is separate from the SAT, and it is not a school subject.
English, Math, and Reading make up the composite score, from 1 to 36. The composite is the average of those three scores, rounded to a whole number. Science is optional and is not part of the composite. Writing is also optional.
If you take Science, that score is reported on its own, from 1 to 36. A STEM score uses Math and Science from the same sitting. Lessons follow the sections you are actually taking.
We do not register you for an ACT test date. Tell us whether Science or Writing is part of your plan.

What we cover
What we cover for the ACT
The tasks we practise. This is not a school syllabus.
English, Math, and Reading
These three sections make the composite score, from 1 to 36. The composite is their average, rounded to a whole number.
Optional Science
Science is no longer part of the composite. If you take it, the score is reported separately. Some courses still ask for it, so check the institution.
Optional Writing
Writing is a separate optional test. It is not part of the composite.
Not the SAT
The digital SAT has Reading and Writing, and Math, scored from 400 to 1600 in total. We do not mix ACT and SAT practice in one plan.
Common mistakes
And how working with a private online tutor can help your child avoid them
Assuming Science is still part of the composite.
We plan English, Math, and Reading as the composite sections, and add Science only if you are taking it.
Using SAT practice for an ACT date.
The section names and score scales differ. Lessons stay on the ACT.
Ignoring optional Writing until the week of the test.
If Writing is part of your plan, we practise it early enough to revise once.
Aiming at a composite the college does not ask for.
Bring the published score requirement, and we plan around that number on the 1 to 36 scale.
Treating English, Math, and Reading as interchangeable practice.
Each section has its own timing and task types. Lessons stay section-specific.
Study strategy
How lessons work for the ACT
Name the test, then practise that format. We do not use another exam's syllabus.
- 1
Before the first lesson
Name the test
Tell us the exact test or course, the score you need, and the date if you have one. We do not book the test for you.
- 2
Before you book
Meet the tutor
The free Meet and Greet is a conversation. You decide whether the tutor knows the test you are sitting.
- 3
Through the preparation
Weekly practice
Lessons work through the tasks for that test, at your pace.
- 4
As the sitting approaches
Timed practice
Closer to the sitting, lessons use the timing and task types of that test. We do not invent a test date.
Tactics
Bring the score the college or programme has asked for.
Say whether you will sit the optional writing section.
Do not mix ACT practice with SAT papers.
Recommended approach
Start while there is time to practise each part of the test. A short block of lessons can still help if the date is close, as long as we know which test you are sitting.
What your child will achieve
What you can expect from the ACT tutoring
Realistic outcomes when your child commits to the process
Practice on the composite sections: English, Math, and Reading
A clear decision on optional Science and Writing
A target on the 1 to 36 scale
A tutor prepares you for the test. We do not book the test, and we do not guarantee a score.
