What families say

Good morning!! I don’t know where you found Manuel but my goodness he is a treat!!! He is funny and kind and uses all kinds of tricks and fun things to teach German. He picked up my daughter’s hobbies and brings that into the lesson and conversation. My daughter is like an energy bunny after each session, and she actually feels more confident for her German university interview. I know I’ve said this before, but you guys are a Godsend!

Carina, Parent

Inez has been absolutely wonderful with my child. She has a real talent for working with second language English learners, and has helped build not only understanding, but also confidence in communication. Her approach with maths is structured but engaging, and she takes the time to ensure concepts are fully understood rather than rushed. We’ve seen a noticeable improvement in both English and maths, and overall academic confidence. I would highly recommend her to any family looking for a supportive and effective tutor.

What you need to know about IB Math AA SL

What you need to know and how we support your child

The IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Programme (DP) is a rigorous two-year curriculum for students aged 16-19, recognised globally. The DP is made up of the DP core (Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service) and six subject groups: studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, and the arts. Students take one subject from each group at standard level (SL, 150 hours) or higher level (HL, 240 hours), with at least three at HL. At Global Tutors we specialise in IB Math AA SL and understand how it fits into the full DP. We match your child with a tutor who fits their level and goals.

IB Math AA SL requires clear problem-solving, logical structure, and fluency with the formulae and methods examiners expect. We build confidence through worked examples and past-paper practice.

Whether your child is aiming for a 7 at HL or strengthening their SL performance, our tutors work to the official IB Math AA SL subject guide and assessment criteria. We help your child build conceptual clarity, practise past papers, and develop the time management and exam technique that examiners look for. Starting early in the programme gives the best foundation; we also support intensive revision in the run-up to May or November exams.

Our tutors are qualified educators with direct experience of the IB (International Baccalaureate). They use official subject guides, past papers, and mark schemes so that your child's IB Math AA SL preparation is aligned with what examiners expect. One-to-one sessions let your child target their weakest areas and move at their own pace.

We keep pace with your school and the May or November exam cycle so preparation is aligned with deadlines.

With IB Math AA SL, we prioritise clear working and step-by-step reasoning so examiners can award full marks.

1-on-1 sessions tailored to your child's level and curriculum

What we cover

What we cover for IB Math AA SL

Curriculum-aligned content and skills we build with your child

Practice with past papers under timed conditions. We use mark schemes and examiner reports to show how to gain and lose marks, and how to structure extended responses and data-based questions.

Internal assessment (IA) support

intermediate · core

Guidance on planning, structure, and methodology for IAs. We help your child understand criteria and improve their own work. We guide planning and feedback, but we do not write or complete assessed work for the student.

Core concepts and revision

Clear explanations of key concepts with worked examples. Structured revision so your child builds confidence before moving to past papers and harder application questions.

Common mistakes

Common Mistakes

And how working with a private online tutor can help your child avoid them

Answering the question you expected rather than the one set.

We practise interrogating the question: identifying key terms, command words, and scope so your child's answer stays on track.

Vague or general answers without specific evidence or examples.

We work on selecting and integrating precise evidence, quotes, or data so your child's arguments are well supported.

Weak structure: no clear introduction, development, or conclusion.

We use plans and outlines so your child builds a clear argument. We practise timed essays so structure becomes automatic.

Poor time management: spending too long on one part and rushing the rest.

We allocate time per section in past papers and practise under exam conditions so your child learns to pace themselves.

In coursework or IAs: unclear methodology or insufficient critical reflection.

We help your child plan methods and reflection so their work meets the criteria. We guide planning and feedback, but we do not write or complete assessed work for the student.

Not reading the mark scheme so your child misses what examiners reward.

We use mark schemes and example responses so your child sees exactly how marks are awarded and what to include.

Study strategy

Study plan and exam strategy for IB Math AA SL

A clear path from your syllabus or specification to exam day

1

Ongoing through the programme

Foundation and syllabus mapping

Map your child's subject guide and identify strengths and gaps. We cover core topics with clear explanations and worked examples so your child has a solid base. Focus on precise definitions and key concepts that examiners test repeatedly.

2

From mid-DP1 or earlier

Past papers and exam technique

Introduce timed past papers and use mark schemes and examiner reports. We identify question types you find hardest and practise them. Build the habit of showing full working and checking units and reasonableness of answers.

3

As per your child's school deadlines

Internal assessment support

Plan and draft IAs with guidance on method, analysis, and criteria. We guide planning and feedback, but we do not write or complete assessed work for the student. Leave time for redrafting and teacher feedback.

4

Final term before exams

Revision and exam readiness

Structured revision of weak areas and full past papers under exam conditions. We focus on time management, question selection, and avoiding the common mistakes highlighted in examiner reports.

Tactics

  • Use official IB (International Baccalaureate) subject guides and past papers as the backbone of revision.
  • Build a glossary of precise definitions for subjects that demand them.
  • Practise under timed conditions and mark your work with the mark scheme.
  • Start IAs early and get feedback on structure before writing the full draft.
  • Read examiner reports to see common errors and what gains marks.

Recommended approach

The IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Programme rewards consistent work and clear understanding. Start by aligning your child's revision to the subject guide and past papers.

Use active recall and spaced repetition for content-heavy topics. For IAs and the Extended Essay, plan early and seek feedback on structure and method; do not leave drafting to the last minute.

In the run-up to exams, prioritise timed past papers and examiner reports so you know exactly what each question type requires. Time management in exams is critical: your child should practise allocating time per section and stick to it.

Our tutors can tailor this approach to your child's subject and level (SL/HL) and focus on their weakest areas first.

How does IB Math AA SL tutoring align with the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Programme?+

Our tutors are familiar with the DP curriculum: the six subject groups (studies in language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, the arts) and the core (TOK, Extended Essay, CAS). We can support subject content, internal assessments, and exam technique.

How do I get matched with an IB Math AA SL tutor?+

We hand pick the best tutor for your child's needs. Tell us your child's subject, level, curriculum (e.g. IB (International Baccalaureate), Cambridge, IEB), and goals (e.g. exam prep, coursework help, or general support). We recommend a tutor and you book your child's first lesson. We offer a Fit-First Guarantee: if your child's first lesson is not the right match, we'll replace your child's tutor - no questions asked. The replacement must be for the same subject and curriculum. This way you can focus on finding the right tutor without worrying about commitment after one session.

Yes. We help with planning, structure, methodology, and feedback on drafts. We guide planning and feedback, but we do not write or complete assessed work for the student. We explain the criteria and how to improve your analysis and presentation so your child can submit with confidence. Proper citation and academic integrity are important; we guide your child on that too.

When are IB Math AA SL IB exams and how is the grade determined?+

IB exams are held in May and November. Subject grades usually depend on final exams (often 70-80% of the grade) and internal assessment (20-30%). Can I change IB Math AA SL session times?+

Yes. Sessions are scheduled around your availability. You can arrange regular weekly slots or book ad-hoc lessons depending on your package and tutor availability. Many students have a fixed time each week; others prefer to book as they go, especially during exam revision.

Do you offer group sessions for IB Math AA SL?+
